There are predictions of cold temperatures (below 20) projected for this weekend. With the warmer weather that we have been having we may see some shrubs and trees with leaves and/or flowers emerging. Can you do anything for most of them? No. You may lose any flowers and have some leaf loss. The projected cold for the Asheville area doesn't appear to be going to last that long so hopefully there will not be any bark splitting. Covering them isn't going to give that much protection. Wait until mid May to prune out damaged branches. If you have recently planted annuals or perennials, you may want to cover them with frost protection fabric. This will give you 5-10 degrees of protection. Plants that can be moved back into overwintering houses or greenhouses, should be moved.
